At the beginning of the 20th century, the European physical culture movement catalyzed a significant shift in modern sports thought—from a narrow focus on athletic performance to an emphasis on physical education, health promotion, and personal development. George Hackenschmidt, a prominent figure in this movement, exerted profound influence not only in strength training and professional wrestling but also developed a systematic philosophy of physical culture centered on the body, mind, education, and health. Drawing on his representative works such as The Way to Live, Man and Cosmic Antagonism, and The Three Memories and Forgetfulness, this article integrates theories of physical culture, sport philosophy, and health promotion to trace the intellectual background of Hackenschmidt’s physical culture philosophy. It analyzes the theoretical dimensions of his views on bodily ontology, mind-body unity, physical education, natural health, and personality development, and further explores their practical implications for public fitness, school physical education, health promotion, and the evolution of sport philosophy.
